What is known

Carson Blackgoat (Navajo) is recorded in Hougart as making ranger buckle sets and bracelets using stamp work, repousse, and tire tread designs. His mark is CARSON B. He is identified as the brother of Harrison Blackgoat (?–1977, Navajo; mark: H. BLACKGOAT) and Larson Blackgoat (1957–2003, Navajo; stamp work, concho belts; mark: L BLACKGOAT). Larson Blackgoat also shared his stamp with his wife Bertha Blackgoat. The Blackgoat family includes other smiths listed in Hougart: Arnold Blackgoat (traditional, stamp work, set stones; marks: Arnold Blackgoat script, BLKGT), Ben Blackgoat (1928–1970, mosaic inlay, overlay, boxes; mark: BB), Mose Blackgoat (1898–1975, cast work, bracelets including snake-shape; father of Ben Blackgoat), Verna Blackgoat (retro style, stamp work), and others.
