Lauren Koinva — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Lauren Koinva learned silversmithing from Bernard Dawahoya. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records Lauren Koinva as a member of the Sun's Forehead clan from Shungopavi who began silverwork in 1973 (Wright 2003, p. 87). Lauren Koinva died in 1981.
The hallmark
Wright labels the mark "Rattle." The printed drawing shows a round head divided by a double-line band across its lower part, on a straight handle below (Wright 2003, p. 87).
