Valjean Joshevema, Sr. — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Valjean Joshevema, Sr. began silverwork in 1948 under the G.I. Bill, and took it up again in the 1970s. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records Valjean Joshevema as a member of the Sun clan, born in Shungopavi, who later moved to Oraibi and was still working when her list was compiled; she also lists the name Lomaheftewa (Wright 2003, p. 78).
The hallmark
Wright labels the mark "Crescent Moon." The printed drawing shows a crescent moon opening to the left, its inner edge drawn as a profile face with a small dot eye, a nose and a mouth (Wright 2003, p. 78).
