Rosemary Panteah — Zuni Silversmith

Rosemary Panteah worked in petit point. Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists her as "Rosemary Panteah (?-deceased; Zuni)," active from the 1960s, and records that she shared a stamp with her husband, Quincy Panteah (Hougart 2022, p. 237).

Nancy N. Schiffer's Turquoise Jewelry shows the scale of her work. Her petit point turquoise squash blossom necklace and earrings of 1976 has twelve blossoms of sixty-six stones each and a naja of 112, more than 800 stones in all, and measures 28 3/4 inches (Schiffer 2008, p. 54). The same book shows her petit point turquoise link belt among five concha belts of the 1970s and 1980s (Schiffer 2008, p. 48), and a needlepoint turquoise and silver cross of the 1980s and a round pendant (Schiffer 2008, p. 39).

Her hallmark

Hougart gives her marks as R. PANTEAH and R. Q. PANTEAH. The second is shared with Quincy Panteah, so a piece with it may be his (Hougart 2022, p. 237).
