Phillip Honanie — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Phillip Honanie learned silversmithing at Hopicrafts. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records Phillip Honanie as a member of the Bear clan from Shungopavi who began silverwork in 1967 and was still working when her list was compiled (Wright 2003, p. 83).
Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as "Phillip Honanie (?-2017; Hopi)," active from the 1960s to about 2000, working in overlay in silver and gold, and gives his marks as "P H" and "a Hopi friendship mark," which "may also include Kopavi International's Liberty Bell, or Hopi Guild mark" (Hougart 2022, p. 142).
The hallmark
Wright labels the mark "Friendship Mark." The printed drawing shows two open curved hooks interlocking: a small C-curve at the upper left hooked into a larger reversed C at the lower right (Wright 2003, p. 83).

Schaaf (2003, p. 178) recorded Phillip Honanie as a Hopi gold and silver overlay jeweler active from 1967, a nephew of Fred Kabotie and Porter Timeche, taught at Hopicrafts and by Pierre Tourraine, and the teacher of his brother Watson Honanie, with Indian Market prizes in 1980 and 1988. [3]
According to Schaaf (2003, p. 179), in the 1980s he studied with the French designer Pierre Tourraine, together with Charles Loloma and Charles Supplee. [3]
Schaaf's 2003 hallmark index gives PH to two makers:
