Mose Blackgoat — Navajo Silversmith

Mose Blackgoat was a Navajo silversmith who worked in cast silver. John Adair's The Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths names him among the Navajo silversmiths of 1940, a year Adair calls "A year of peak production" (Adair 1944, p. 195).

Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as "Mose Blackgoat (1898-1975; Navajo)," making cast work and bracelets, "some in snake shape," and records that he was the father of Ben Blackgoat (Hougart 2022, p. 66), whom Hougart lists as a maker of mosaic inlay, overlay and boxes (1928–1970) (Hougart 2022, p. 65).

His hallmark

Hougart gives his mark as Mose, in script (Hougart 2022, p. 66).
