Michael Sockyma — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Michael Sockyma learned silversmithing at Hopicrafts and worked for the shop, and later set up his own shop at Kykotsmovi. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records him as a member of the Corn clan, born in Hotevilla, who began silverwork in 1965 and was still working when her list was compiled (Wright 2003, p. 82).
His hallmark
Wright prints two marks for him: his initials, without a label, and a mark labelled "Corn Plant 1975." The printed drawings show a capital M with an S tucked under its right leg, and two stylised corn plants side by side, each a stalk with paired leaves and a tassel (Wright 2003, p. 82).
