Mary Lincoln is a Navajo silversmith listed in the Hougart hallmark index.
The mark
Hougart (2022, p. 187) gives her mark as "M (stylized)"; the stamp pictured there is a single script M. [1] We hold a photograph of a stamp reading ML that was filed under her name. Neither book we hold records an ML for any Mary Lincoln, and Schaaf's hallmark index (2003, p. 209) gives ML to other makers, among them Mary Largo and Mary Livingston. [2] Until a source ties that stamp to her, it is not shown here.
No active period, style description, or biographical information accompanies the Hougart listing. The entry appears in a cluster of Lincoln-surname Navajo silversmiths including Emma Lincoln, Francis Thomas Lincoln, Herman H. Lincoln, and Randolph Lincoln.
The two books disagree on who she is. Hougart (2022, p. 187) lists Mary Lincoln as her own entry and sends "Mary Marie Yazzie Lincoln" to a separate entry under Mary Marie Yazzie. [1] Schaaf (2003, p. 216) gives "Mary Lincoln" as one of the names of Mary Marie Yazzie Lincoln, whose marks include "M in script."
