Marshall Jenkins — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Marshall Jenkins learned silversmithing from Chester Yellowhair at school in Albuquerque, but did little silverwork until the 1960s, when he moved back to Bacavi from the Navajo Ordnance Depot in Flagstaff. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records him as a member of the Bear clan, born in Oraibi, who began silverwork in 1939 (Wright 2003, p. 77). He died in 1982.
His hallmark
Wright labels his mark "Bear Claw" and records that he first used a hallmark in 1967. The printed drawing shows a single long curved claw, wide at the upper right and tapering to a point at the lower left (Wright 2003, p. 77).
