Jeffrey Castillo — Navajo Silversmith
Jeffrey Castillo is a Navajo silversmith of small things: stampwork silver and miniatures. Gregory Schaaf's American Indian Jewelry I lists him as Navajo, born 1949, active from about 1977 in traditional stampwork, silver kachinas and miniatures, and gives his forms as miniature bowls, vases, teapots, creamers, sugar bowls, salt and pepper shakers, pill boxes, thimbles, baby spoons and baby rattles (Schaaf 2003, p. 105).
Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as active since the 1970s in kachina figurines, statuary, bookmarks and barrel beads (Hougart 2022, p. 79). As of 2003, Schaaf recorded awards at Indian Market in Santa Fe and the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial in Gallup (Schaaf 2003, p. 105).
His hallmark
Hougart gives his marks as J C and Jeffrey Castillo in etched script, and Jeffrey Castillo in script (Hougart 2022, p. 79). Schaaf records his stamp as J.C. Sterling (Schaaf 2003, p. 105).
