Hubert Yowytewa — Hopi Silversmith Hallmark
Hubert Yowytewa learned silversmithing from his father, Arthur Yowytewa, and at Hopicrafts, and his hallmark joins the two generations: his own initials with his father's symbol. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records him as a member of the Reed clan from Bacavi who began silverwork in 1965 (Wright 2003, p. 82). He died in 1991.
His hallmark
Wright labels his mark "Father's Sun Symbol." The printed drawing shows the capital letters HY above a round sun face with a pointed ray border, a divided cap at the top, two slit eyes and a triangular mouth (Wright 2003, p. 82).
