Herbert Komayouse — Hopi Silversmith
Herbert Komayouse, also printed as Quimayousie, learned silver in the veterans' classes. Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records that he began at Hotevilla in 1948 under the G.I. Bill (Wright 2003, p. 78), and shows an overlay bracelet of his from 1949 (Wright 2003, p. 44).
Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as "Herbert Komayouse (Quimayousie) (Hopi)," active since the 1940s and working in overlay, and places him in the class of 1947 to 1949 (Hougart 2022, p. 174).
His hallmark
Wright labels his mark "Spider" (Wright 2003, p. 78). Hougart gives it as "A spider" (Hougart 2022, p. 174).
