Fernando Batala — Hopi Silversmith
Fernando Batala learned from Dawn Lucas, according to Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, which records him at Shipaulovi (Wright 2003, p. 107).
Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as "Fernando Batala (Hopi)," working in overlay and active since 1972 (Hougart 2022, p. 45); Wright records him beginning silverwork in 1992 (Wright 2003, p. 107).
His hallmark
Wright shows an F B mark and a bear mark used with Dawn Lucas from 1994 (Wright 2003, p. 107). Hougart gives his marks as "F B; a bear" (Hougart 2022, p. 45).
