The mark
Per Hougart 5e (p. 249): Fannie Platero used three recorded hallmarks — F, FNE PLATERO, and PLATERO FNE — indicating that she stamped work both with a simple initial and with a longer mark combining her surname with what appears to be an abbreviated form of her first name (FNE likely standing for Fannie). The use of multiple marks across different periods or piece types is common among Navajo silversmiths documented in Hougart.

Schaaf (2003), who entered her as Fannie Chavez (Fannie Platero), traced her marks over time:
“early stamped Fannie Platero between 2 rounded lines, Navajo; FNE Platero, Sterling; also used F; now - stamps F.C.”

Schaaf (2003, p. 111) recorded her as Navajo, born in 1944 and active from about 1971, a daughter of Mary Platero and Arturo Chavez, taught by her mother and great-grandfather, and the teacher of her daughter, Patricia Platero. [1]
