Everett Harris — Hopi Silversmith
Everett Harris was a Hopi overlay silversmith trained in the postwar veterans' classes. Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as Hopi, died 1968, active in the late 1940s in overlay, and a member of the Hopi GI Bill class of 1949 to 1951 (Hougart 2022, p. 135). Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver records him at Mishongnovi, beginning under the G.I. Bill in 1948 and working until about 1951 (Wright 2003, p. 77).
Gregory Schaaf's American Indian Jewelry I names his teachers as Paul Saufkie and Fred Kabotie, records him as a World War II veteran, and lists his work in copper and silver overlay (Schaaf 2003, p. 172). Saufkie's own entry lists him among the students of those veterans' classes (Schaaf 2003, p. 280).
His hallmark
Hougart, Wright and Schaaf all record his mark as a tobacco leaf (Hougart 2022, p. 135; Wright 2003, p. 77; Schaaf 2003, p. 172).
