Duane Koinva — Hopi Silversmith
Duane Koinva began silverwork in 1990 at Shungopavi-Shipaulovi, Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks, records (Wright 2003, p. 103).
A money clip he made appears in Theda Bassman's The Beauty of Hopi Jewelry (Bassman 1993, p. 37). Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists him as Hopi, working in overlay and active since the 1990s (Hougart 2022, p. 174).
His hallmark
Wright labels his mark "Sun's Forehead & Arrow" (Wright 2003, p. 103). Hougart describes it as a sun perched on an arrow pointing left, and notes that pieces may also carry a Hopi Guild mark (Hougart 2022, p. 174).
