Dawn Lucas — Hopi Silversmith
Dawn Lucas learned from Marcus Coochwykvia and began silverwork at Mishongnovi in 1987, according to Margaret Nickelson Wright's Hopi Silver, a register of Hopi smiths and their hallmarks (Wright 2003, p. 98). She taught in turn: Wright records that Fernando Batala learned from her (Wright 2003, p. 107).
Her 1992 work in Theda Bassman's The Beauty of Hopi Jewelry includes link bracelets with water designs and butterflies, pin/pendants of a bear paw and a butterfly, and a pendant of the sun (Bassman 1993, pp. 13, 35). Bille Hougart's Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks lists her as "Dawn Lucas (Hopi)," working in overlay and active since the 1980s (Hougart 2022, p. 200).
