Annie Chapo — Navajo Silversmith Hallmark

A Navajo silversmith with the initial "A." and the surname Chapo is documented in Hougart as working in traditional turquoise-set jewelry including bracelets. Whether the "A. Chapo" entry in Hougart corresponds to "Annie Chapo" cannot be confirmed from the available text, but it is the only Chapo entry that matches on initial and nation.
The mark
What is known
Two other Chapo family members appear in Hougart at the same location:
- Ben Chapo (Navajo): mark B C (conjoined, back-to-back)
- Phil Chapo (Navajo): leaf applique; mark PHIL CHAPO
The A. Chapo entry's traditional turquoise-set style with leaf motifs is consistent with mid-to-late twentieth-century Navajo silversmithing. No active date range is given in Hougart for A. Chapo.
No entry for Annie Chapo or A. Chapo appears in Adair 1944, Rosnek & Stacey 1976, Bedinger 1973, or Schaaf 2003.
